ABOUT ME!
I was born in Duluth, MN, where my family currently resides. I have also lived in Erie, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Mobile, AL. I am a graduate of Auburn University with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology and M.Ed in Secondary Biology Education. Throughout my college career, I volunteered at Auburn’s Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center taking care of and teaching the public about birds of prey. Below is a picture of me with Solomon, a Barred Owl.
I began teaching at Goodwater Elementary School, in Coosa County, AL, as a 6th-8th grade integrated science teacher. I am currently a 7th grade life science teacher at Sutton Middle School. This is my 6th year at Sutton.
I live in a 1950s bungalow in Smyrna, GA with my husband, Peter, and two Whippets, Cooper and Bernie. We have done all the renovations to our home by ourselves (or should I say that Peter has done them all by HIMself?)
I enjoy traveling when I can and my husband and I always travel home to Duluth, MN for Christmas. We like to drive everywhere so we can visit strange and often overlooked places along the way, like Metropolis, home of Superman, and also DeForest,WI, home of the large pink elephant and the Ehlenbach cheese cow, and someplace in Illinois where we found the Leinenkugel lounge chair. :)
Last year was an eventful year. Ms. Zaher and I both had a once in a lifetime chance to experience weightlessness in a Zero Gravity flight courtesy of Northrop Grumman. It was amazing and set the precedent for trying new things as teachers.

This summer I was lucky to participate in the SEARCH program through UGA. Ms. Zaher and I took a two week long trip to Skidaway and Sapelo Islands where we participated in lectures, labs, and research. This experience changed the way I want to teach science to my students and I can’t wait to share my new ideas this year.

In my spare time, I love to watch movies, read books (my favorites include Pillars of the Earth/World Without End, The Giver, 100 Years of Solitude, Confederacy of Dunces and Alice in Wonderland), play guitar hero and any wii games (mario kart, lego, paper mario and of course wii sports), go to concerts, hang out with colleagues, friends, and family, and TEACH!
Because I am so committed to my job, please consider adopting my classroom to help provide materials to make science interesting and engaging for your child!
